Odalisque Fantastique, Mixed Media, Collage, 22x30
Odalisque Fantastique is a deviation from the artist's normal media considerations and was created in series with two other pieces as a formal reconsideration of the figure's importance in artistic nudes. Emphasis is placed on the fabric and immediate physical surroundings of the sitter rather than on the still highly-visible individual herself. An interest in compelling the audience to view her as secondary to her trappings in accord with the modern convention of initially analysing what one surrounds their person with instead of the person is created by this transposition of aesthetic hierarchy.
