|The Nude in the 21st Century|
The human body is not as constant as we often believe it to be, not in its physicality, psychology, or even political state. As a figurative artist I have been occasionally reminded of the vulnerability in the human condition. I portray this, in as best as I can represent it, in the process of drawing. Drawing has become a way for me to explore our reality, which is at the heart of what any artist is doing.
The visceral and vulnerable body is a signifier of lived experience. My drawings are about the experience of being human. They are my way of accessing something that I cannot otherwise access if I do not engage with the figure. They are my way of addressing the fragility, resiliency, complexities and capabilities of the body, both in its corporeal, and psychological existence. I believe that the figure is one of the most profound and challenging art forms an artist can choose to take on, and is one of the most engaging forms for an audience to view.
