|The Nude in the 21st Century|
My subject matter is the human body, the landscape, animal skulls and the relationships between figures in space. When painting the figure I love exploring the exciting and subtle details of musculature and skin tone.
My figures reside in a posited reality just outside that of human senses, a metaphysical space - an environment of spirit and being. In this reality, figures whose heads are that of animal skulls, create images that work as a springboard to that posited reality and to imaginative speculation.
The shapes and forms of skulls are infinitely interesting and beautiful and I believe they add a provocative and fascinating element to the paintings; In combination with the fleshy bodies they create a symbolic juxtaposition that captures the beauty and mystery of existence. The offset of flesh and bone, life and death, reality and unreality, enhances the viewer's journey to these otherworldly environments.
