Humanoid 5, Woodcut collage, 30"x22"
My interest in the human figure begins with my own feeling of physicality in my own body. In my adolescence, and the beginning of my college career, I spent much time studying science, which began my interest in human anatomy. In my work, the connection to the body has been a common theme. I have been interested in the process of building up and breaking down the traditional components of the figure, by using forms that are not overtly human. Dismantling the body into moveable wood blocks as I have done with these prints, allows for conventional placement to be discarded. By ignoring established ideals I am creating something new with an otherwise extremely traditional theme.
