Venusian Dimples, Pastel pencil on toned paper, 18" X 24"

Light is the source of all we see in the world; without it there would be nothing to illuminate the face of a loved one or the quality of earth beneath us. Capturing the way light creates these forms and textures is my principle objective as a draftsperson and oil painter. I work exclusively from life and spend many hours looking. Through a process of careful observation and description, I aim to convey the essential emotional impact of a person, landscape, or arrangement of objects before me. I learned to paint from nature, and it is the ability to reproduce it and then manipulate it according to my imagination that drives me.
