The Nude in the 21st Century |

Lisa Snow Lady I love drawing the human form. The figure, with its variety of shapes, including curvilinear and angular forms and postures and expressions, is one of the most enduring themes in the visual arts and contains a whole host of subject matter in itself; from landscape to portrait. Working directly from the models' short poses in a direct, energetic manner allows me to capture their essence by building up layers of marks in ink that cannot be erased. This affords me the opportunity and freedom to play with line and color in an intuitive way. Within this narrative, I enjoy incorporating areas of color with layers of tissue and rice paper for another dimension. Each of these mixed media pieces become playful experimentations in line and color. Like puzzles to solve, they bring with them their own sets of challenges, limitations, and advantages. | |
