Peach, Oil paint on wood panel, 24" x 24"

I started this project of painting nude chests as a way of coming to terms with my identity as a queer woman. Throughout this series, it has turned into so much more. My models vary widely, in terms of body shape, skin tone, and body hair. At the current moment, it is representative of healing in terms of body image. Every single one of my models has an insecurity regarding self image; one is in recovery from bulimia, one is coming to terms with her small breasts, and one is learning to appreciate her stretch marks. I aim to be an art therapist, and though this is not art therapy in the traditional sense, this project is meant to serve as a step in healing body image and learning to love oneself. When people see their body types portrayed as a work of art, it's a moment of clarity and realization that every body is beautiful and unique.
