Lady and the Landscape: No.2 Ape Caves, Acrylic on Canvas, 16" x 12"

From the darkness she sees the light.

My background in landscape painting and my deep love for connecting to nature have come together in my latest series Lady and the Landscape. Using acrylics and wood block printing, this series explores the way society looks at a women’s body in comparison to a beautiful landscape. I want the viewer to feel the connection that women have to nature and adventure. This connection is raw and free spirited. My ladies and the beautiful places they stumble upon are uninhibited and untouched by the rules of society. The scenes that I paint are real places that I have traveled to and found inspiration. When I hike long distances to beautiful waterfalls and mountain lakes, these specific spots have told me I need to paint them. I then start with multiple photos and posing myself in the landscape to use as references later in my studio. Through this process I am documenting my own liberation among the trees.
